Join NPS rangers and butterfly enthusiasts for a day of discovery as we count butterfly populations in areas in and around the national park. No experience is needed, but cameras, binoculars, and field guides may add to your experience.
Bring your family and enjoy this fun outdoor event.
From a press release in 2021, “over 100 individual butterflies were meticulously spotted against a blue sky. The most common species this year were small wood-nymphs, with brown wings and yellow-ringed spots. This butterfly count will have national impact on what rangers know about butterflies and their habitats, as well as national recognition at arts competitions. The butterfly count is one of the events Bryce Canyon holds to engage the public, alongside the popular Christmas Bird Count scheduled every December.”
